MESOPOTAMIA. Edessa. Macrinus, 217-218. Tetradrachm (Billon, 26 mm, 11.80 g, 6 h). ΑΥ Κ Μ ΟΠЄΛ•CЄ•ΜΑΚΡЄΙΝΟC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrinus to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΔΗΜΑΡ•Χ•ЄΞ ΥΠΑΤΟC Eagle with spread wings standing facing, head to right and holding wreath in beak; between the eagle's legs, shrine. Bellinger 142 (same obverse die). Prieur 852. Exceptionally well struck for the issue, with full legends. Very minor reverse pitting, otherwise, good very fine.

As noted by Prieur, the portrait of Macrinus in the earliest issue from Edessa is still clearly reminiscent of that of his predecessor, Caracalla.
